Instagram Profile Link Page

Always updating your Instagram Profile Link? How about we fix that by creating an Instagram Profile Link Page. If you’ve been using Instagram for any amount of time, you know how frustrating it can be to update the link in your profile every time you post something new on your website. #LinkInProfile – While working on a custom project a few weeks back, I did some research into ways to rectify this and we came up with a solution that I think is pretty awesome, and requires zero updating via instagram OR on your soon to be instagram profile link page. Let’s get to it…

Instagram Profile Link Page

Install and activate this plugin (will open in new tab) : Display Posts Shortcode

Create a new page in your WordPress dashboard. I named mine “Pretty Little Links”. You could simply name it “Instagram Links” or something to that effect.

Click on the “text” tab and place the following code into the page, this will display your latest blog posts automatically (be sure this page isn’t cached if you want it to update regularly).

[display-posts]

Once you have that code placed, go ahead and save your draft and preview your page, you’ll see a list of links to your latest blog posts.

Now that you have your latest blog posts showing, you can add some evergreen links to things like your email subscription page, or your about page etc. I did this buy adding a link, then adding class=”button” to the link, which will make your link display as a button if that’s coded into your theme.

Note – Our New Pretty Simple WordPress theme has the prettiest buttons, and you can customize the color and hover color of your buttons super easily with the built-in customizer.

Tech Tip: Use this page as an opportunity to connect directly with your instagram audience, write a short blurb welcoming them and be sure you’re providing only content that interests that particular audience and nothing more.

You can also take this a step further and get fancy with images and alignment, custom css etc. Here’s a link to a WordPress tutorial demonstrating the various arguments: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/.

You can use this technique on any page, by the way, pretty neat.

Now all that’s left is for you to publish your page, and paste the link in your instagram profile. Next time you post an image and want to link to your blog, the work is done for you, without the use of a paid service.

Again, one of the 10 Reasons WordPress Will Always Be Better Than Squarespace, and other builder type systems is the freedom to create whatever you want without restriction.
