Add ConvertKit Signup Forms to Blog Posts

TECH TIP: Add ConvertKit Signup Forms to Blog Posts

I sent out an email last week letting you all know I’ll be launching some killer Blog Planning Worksheets soon, and in that email I asked you what you find to be the most difficult part of blogging. The feedback you guys sent was amazing, and took these worksheets next level, I cannot WAIT for you to get your hands on ’em!

Some of the replies had to do with the technical aspect of blogging, and it just so happens when I sat down to use the blog planning worksheets to plan out the series’ I’d like to share on my blog, Tech Tuesday was one of them. I love the technical side of things, and love to break it down and simplify these things for those who do not love “tech talk” so much.

First up..

TECH TIP: Add ConvertKit Signup Forms to Blog Posts

So, you’re blogging. You’ve created some amazing content, and you want to share even more content exclusively with your email subscribers. You can simply pop an eNews subscription widget into the After Post widget area of any of our WordPress Themes, or you can add a signup form directly into your blog post.

I use and adore ConvertKit for my email subscription service. Their dashboard is organized, clear, and their insights are amazing. I’ve tried 2 other big name services, and ConvertKit blows them out of the water on all fronts. Never heard of ’em? Alright, so, let’s get to adding that form step by step.

Sign into your ConverKit dashboard.

Select Forms.

Select + Create Form.

Click on the “Form” option instead of “landing page”.

Select which style of form you’d like to add to your blog post.

Go through each settings menu and adjust according to your liking.

TECH TIP: Since you’re embedding this specific form into your blog posts, and only using it here, this is a good place to add in custom “success messages”, something like “I’m so glad you read my post, and excited to share more valuable content with you via email. Welcome to the fam!” Customize it to fit your personality, so right off the bat your new subscriber is getting to know you better. ConvertKit even gives you the option to add an automatically generated incentive download upon subscription. This used to be SO difficult to navigate, but they make it a breeze.

Once you have all of your settings adjusted to your liking, click Save.

Next, click on the “Embed” option. From here, I select the javascript option, then copy and paste the code into my blog posts. Be sure you are on the “Text” tab of your editor screen, and not the Visual tab for this to work properly. ConvertKit also has a WordPress plugin if you prefer to go that route.

Save your post draft, and then click Preview to see the form.

Before you hit publish make sure you’ve tested your form to ensure the resulting confirmation emails and such both send and are properly worded. Newsletters are such an awesome chance for your readers to get to know you and your company. Talk (write) normal, add some personality, add your logo and customize the tar out of the process.

I hope these steps simplify the subconscious stress you may have when writing a blog post. It’s easy to add a subscription form using ConvertKit, and if you do choose to use another email service, they likely have similarly simple steps.
